Hair transplantation has come a long way – from the follicular hair transplant (FUT) of 1990s to the follicular hair extraction (FUE).
Although both the techniques perform the same task – cover the bald area of your head with hair, FUE has a upper hand.
FUE is a technique of transplanting hair follicles from the donor area to the bald area (recipient area). These follicular units usually contain 1 to 4 hairs, and are extracted individually.
FUE involves removing hairs individually from the scalp; hence, leaving no linear scar behind. However, there will be tiny puncture marks of 1 millimeter or less in diameter that tend to heal by themselves in the days following the procedure. These tiny wounds typically heal within a week’s time. It also minimizes post-surgical pain and discomfort. Furthermore, FUE has a quicker patient recovery time than FUT.
Recovery Time Period and Cost:
To every advantage, there is a corresponding disadvantage. Though FUE leaves no scar behind on the scalp, it involves a good deal of time (due to removing hairs individually), and hence, the excess cost when compared to the more common FUT. Having said that, the FUE technology is getting better with time, as well as gaining popularity among the people. Many hair restoration practices have started to lower the cost for FUE procedures, reducing the cost difference between a FUE and a FUT procedure.
